a walk in the park (April 17, 2005 - 3:25 p.m.)

i think when all is said and done and we have moved far away from texas and are living somewhere that votes democrat and we aren't ostracized for being vegetarians and people don't look at me like i'm crazy for getting my b.a. in creative writing, i will look back on this time of my life as the time of walks. walks in the park, with the dog, along the trail that runs with the creek, through the pecan groves, saying howdy to the other people with their dogs, feeling proud that my dog is good enough to forgo the leash, watching tyler throw the frisbee, looking at insects and plants and talking about nothing, about everything, making plans, making mental love, letting the dog swim in the creek, 3.5 miles in one direction and then back again, to the car, to the house, tired, with blistered feet and off to buy smoothies which are too expensive and so serve only as rewards.

i get the banana, strawberry, orange juice and honey one. hold the turbinado. i don't even really know what turbinado is.

tyler says we should bring a video camera and tape our walk, and not watch it until we are old and wrinkled and require the use of canes and walkers. then we will pop in our tape, take out our teeth, hold hands, and enjoy our walk again.

i said, i like that idea. i like it a lot.
